Of course, breakups leave bruises on your heart but those are temporary.

I believe that society is brainwashing us to believe that love has to be something we fear in life. Love is an active will- namely, both an intention and action. She goes on to explain that, “Love is as love does. The first piece of clarity I received from Bell is that love is not a feeling. I loveeee love and desire to find true love. For those of you who don’t know me, I’ve officially reached a peak in my confidence & self-awareness journey where I’m ready to announce that I am indeed a simp. My favorite part of the book, by no surprise was about romantic love.

Before reading I’d recommend doing a little self reflection. Of course, I won’t spoil anything because I’d highly recommend for you to do some self discovery of your own. As a person driven by solutions, I desired to hear another women’s perspective regarding a topic I thought I knew so much about: love… but clearly I had so much to find out. This book caught my attention and I initially believed that this was the going to act as a bandage, patching up the ache of the cut the last heartbreak I’ve experienced had left me. Intertwined between those different aspects of love, Bell highlights the haunting of childhood traumas that have contaminated adult perspectives of love, how society has lost control of the love of consumerism, and she also addresses death and how even such a tradegy can’t take love away. Bell Hooks dives deep into the discovery of self love, romantic love, and reaching a lifestyle of loving to live life. This book definitely exceeded my expectations. How fitting is it that I wrapped up my first book of the year on Valentine’s Day, and the book just happens to be titled, “all about love” written by bell hooks.
